mission accomplished

hipster squares ftw! tonight i finished the afghan i started last fall! i am 75% satisfied with the final product. i screwed up the corners and didn’t realize it until it would really complicate things to fix it. i made them far too small (half the size they should have been…not sure what i was thinking) so i blocked the heck out of them, but they are still pretty shrunken. but, it’s not very often it will be laid out flat. when you’re all cozied up with it on the couch, it’s not even noticeable!

this was an original design. there is one large granny square in the middle, surrounded by squares with 5 rounds, and the outer two rows have squares with 4 rounds. i used carina’s joining method so that i could incorporate rows of black in between the squares. i love the color combination! however, i am a little iffy on the joining method. next time, i’d like to try this join-as-you-go method – there isn’t much i hate more than weaving in ends, so this would be a godsend!!!

here are some pics of the process:

About Liv

i have a lot of hobbies. i cook and bake – usually, from scratch. i paint, though not as often as I would like. i love to make pottery on the wheel, though this hobby fell by the wayside while I was in grad school. now that I’ve finished, I’m looking forward to potentially getting back into ceramics and devoting more time and energy to all of my hobbies. my mom got me hooked on refinishing garage sale or thrift shop furniture into beautiful, rich pieces for the home. and my true love is crochet – i love the feeling of achievement in taking a ball of yarn and a hook and turning it into a beautiful afghan or purse or set of coasters. in some way or another, all of these hobbies center around making things – thus, creation nation.
