anyone know how to use this?

i picked this up at joann, thinking it would be a handy way to hold the yarn when crocheting. i don’t have a very natural way of holding the yarn, and have never been able to get used to the methods i have seen others using – wrapped around the pinky or some other finger. the way i hold my yarn is kind of awkward, and i think i would crochet a lot faster if i could get used to another way.

so, i bought this thing, thinking it would be perfect because right now the pointer finger on my left hand is the one that is usually holding the yarn in some way. it seems like it is intended to have the yarn go through it to have the proper tension so you don’t have to hold onto the yarn, but every way i have tried it, it didn’t work. it would either split the yarn or the yarn would just get stuck. anyone out there know how to use this thing???

About Liv

i have a lot of hobbies. i cook and bake – usually, from scratch. i paint, though not as often as I would like. i love to make pottery on the wheel, though this hobby fell by the wayside while I was in grad school. now that I’ve finished, I’m looking forward to potentially getting back into ceramics and devoting more time and energy to all of my hobbies. my mom got me hooked on refinishing garage sale or thrift shop furniture into beautiful, rich pieces for the home. and my true love is crochet – i love the feeling of achievement in taking a ball of yarn and a hook and turning it into a beautiful afghan or purse or set of coasters. in some way or another, all of these hobbies center around making things – thus, creation nation.
